Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Queshi has said that Russia is an important partner not only for Pakistan but also for regional peace. Qureshi made these comments while meeting his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday.
Lavrov also said that both Russia and Pakistan had a “common interest” in helping the peace process in Afghanistan start “as soon as possible”. “We have a common interest in creating conditions for the start of the political process as soon as possible. The process by which Afghani people would lead themselves and which would take into consideration the interests of all neighbouring countries”, Lavrov said.
Qureshi, who was on a four nation visit, has also visited Kabul, Tehran and Beijing on his “shuttle diplomacy” tour, where he met his counterparts and other high-ranking officials and informed them about Pakistan’s efforts towards brining Taliban to the negotiating table.
